More About Medical Clinical Assisting

What is a Medical Clinical Assistant?

Medical Clinical Assistants may have different duties depending on their work environments. They may do basic laboratory tests, dispose of contaminated supplies, and sterilize medical instruments. The most common duties include:
  • Record patient history and personal information
  • Measure vital signs, such as blood pressure
  • Help physicians with patient examinations
  • Prepare blood samples for laboratory tests

What Skills are Required?

The Medical Clinical Assistant program trains you to be a second pair of hands for the doctor, which requires good manual dexterity, reliability and the ability to work well with others. You will be required to work in a well-lighted, clean environment wearing protective gear such as gloves, masks, eye shields, and protective clothing. You may also need to understand and follow the safety procedures of your medical office to minimize any risk associated with the use of the x-ray equipment and other medical instruments.

WHAT OUR STUDENTS HAVE TO SAY

“Hands-on is a great way to learn for myself because I remember better. At least that way you’re practicing what you’re going to be doing. You’re not just sitting in a classroom reading books and reading over what you’re going to be doing. You’re actually applying your skills so that way you know what you’re going to be doing in the field.”
